BLUE ECOSYSTEM PRESENTED DURING THE CPMR INFORMAL GROUP ON THE BLUE DIMENSION OF S3

29/04/2024

The creation of the informal group, in the framework of the CPMR Maritime Core Group, is enshrined in the continuous work of the CPMR, promoting the important role of the Regions supporting their blue economy through innovation priorities targeted in their S3. The first meeting had two objectives:

  • To discuss about the draft roadmap prepared by the CPMR General Secretariat and collect the views of the members of the group on the objectives, activities, and the timeline for 2024 and 2025.
  • To present current interregional collaboration opportunities with the presentation of new S3 thematic partnerships on sustainable blue economy, including the existing ADMA Energy partnership, now integrated in the S3 platform on sustainable blue economy.

Tiziana de NITTIS (Emilia Romagna Region, BLUE ECOSYSTEM’s Lead Partner) presented the Maritime Sustainable Blue Bio-Economy S3 thematic partnership, by highlighting the involvement of the region in various cooperation EU and international frameworks and projects. She also took the opportunity to mention the recently launched Interreg Euro-MED project “BLUE ECOSYSTEM” and the great opportunity it presents in the context of this topic

All in all, the activities of the CPMR informal group on the blue dimension of S3 are now on track. The inputs shared during the meeting on the draft roadmap were included in the document and regions shared interest in other relevant areas for a sustainable blue economy beyond the thematic areas covered by the S3 partnerships such as offshore wind energy, multi-use offshore energy and aquaculture, coastal and maritime tourism (including water sports) and collaboration on challenges related to invasive species.

The next meeting of the informal group will take place in September 2024, in Brussels, Belgium (exact dates to be defined).
